4 lines are needed for this drill with 2 lines at each end of the court (one line is at the elbow and are called rebounders. The other line is on the wing and they are called outlets). Note: elbow line is on wing side of lane and each half court’s lines are on opposite sides of the court from each other. 2 balls should be in each line at the elbows. First person in line at the elbow is the rebounder. The rebounder steps into the lane with a ball and throws the ball in the air. If your players are able to have them throw the ball off the backboard. The rebounder then jumps up in the air and catches the ball above their head. As they come down they need to chin the ball and then throw a 2 hand over the head pass to the outlet which is the first person in line at the wing. As the rebounder is catching the ball in the air the outlet person yells “outlet.” After the pass the rebounder runs around the outside of the outlet person and runs to the ball side wing on the opposite end of the court looking for a pass. They can either shoot a lay-up or jump shot. After catching the outlet pass the outlet dribbles down the court and dribbles to the elbow on the side of the court they are on, perform a 2 Foot Jump Stop, and then passes to the rebounder. The other end performs the same drill. After shooting the outlet and dribbler fill in the lines at the end they just moved too
Helpful Hints: Coaches should be in the middle of the lane to help prevent any collisions from happening and to make sure one group has cleared their half of the court before the next group begins.
This is a good drill for teaching players to run the floor wide on the wings in transition.
