Drill #31: Defensive Slides

For this drill break the team up into two groups. The first group lines up along the lane line. The second group stands off to the side. On the go the players on the lane line move across the lane sliding from side to side with their hands held up above their shoulders. They need to concentrate on keeping their head steady (shouldn’t bob up and down) and their feet from coming together. After 20 to 30 seconds switch the groups.

You can mix this up a bit by having players follow the lines on the floor and switch directions with the lines. Perform this at 15, 20, or 30 seconds at a time and go 3 to 5 times each (3 groups of 4)

Helpful Hints: This is a quick, high energy change of direction drill. Pick up your intensity a bit as you encourage them to move quickly by clapping your hands and yelling “Quick, Quick, Quick!”
